Heads Up! Post Concussion Symptoms

Brain

Much attention is being placed on concussions…from pee wee football up to the National Football League. We know a lot about the immediate symptoms of concussion but little information has been available about the symptoms that can follow a concussion for weeks or even months. Physical symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and fatigue are more prominent immediately after an injury while emotional symptoms often arise later, even as physical symptoms disappear. Many patients experience frustration and irritability and can have difficulty concentrating and slower thinking times. It is readily accepted that kids with concussions need to sit out of contact sports We forget that thinking and studying is brain activity too and and those types of activities may need to be reduced until concussion symptoms resolve.
